  • 10 Common Myths About Facelift Surgery Debunked

Facelift surgery has long been a popular option for individuals looking to reduce visible signs of aging and restore a youthful appearance. Yet, despite its widespread use, many myths and misconceptions persist, deterring potential patients from taking the plunge. To set the record straight, we’re breaking down 10 common facelift myths.

Myth 1: Facelifts are only for older individuals

It’s often believed that facelifts are exclusively for people in their 60s or older. This is far from the truth. While older patients frequently seek facelifts, individuals in their 40s and 50s also benefit from the procedure. Some even opt for “mini facelifts” to target specific areas like the cheeks or jawline, addressing early signs of aging. The key factor isn’t age—it’s whether the patient has sagging skin or loose facial muscles that they want to address.

Myth 2: Facelifts are painful and require a long recovery time

Advances in surgical techniques have made facelift procedures far less painful than they were years ago. Surgeons now use refined methods that minimize discomfort and shorten recovery times. Most patients experience mild swelling or bruising, which subsides within a week or two. Many return to work and regular activities within 10–14 days. Pain management during and after the procedure is a priority, ensuring the process is as comfortable as possible.

Myth 3: Facelifts look unnatural and obvious

There’s a common belief that facelifts can leave people with an unnatural or overly tight appearance. Modern facelift techniques focus on creating natural and subtle results by gently lifting the skin and underlying muscles, rather than overly tightening them. Board-certified plastic surgeons, like Dr. Kitto in Richmond, VA, specialize in tailoring the procedure to emphasize each patient’s unique features, leaving them looking rejuvenated, not artificial.

Myth 4: Non-surgical options provide the same results as a facelift

While non-surgical treatments like Botox and dermal fillers can enhance your appearance, they don’t deliver the same long-lasting results as a surgical facelift. Non-surgical options are effective at smoothing wrinkles and providing temporary volume but cannot address significant sagging of the skin or deeper facial muscles. Facelift surgery offers more comprehensive and durable improvements, often lasting 10 years or more.

Myth 5: Facelifts are only for women

An increasing number of men are undergoing facelifts to maintain a youthful and confident appearance. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, facelift procedures for men have grown steadily in recent years. Men often seek facelifts to reduce sagging skin along the neck and jawline while maintaining strong, masculine contours. The procedure is tailored to their unique facial structure for natural-looking results.

Myth 6: Facelift surgery is a one-size-fits-all procedure

No two faces are exactly alike, and no two facelifts are either. Modern facelifts are highly customizable. Surgeons assess a patient’s anatomy, aging patterns, and goals to create a tailored plan. Patients can choose from a variety of options, such as full facelifts, mini facelifts, or focused procedures targeting specific areas like the neck or mid-face. The customization ensures the results are as individualized as the patients who undergo them.

Myth 7: Facelift results are permanent

While facelifts deliver long-term benefits, they don’t stop the natural aging process. Over time, your skin and muscles will continue to age. However, the procedure sets you back years in terms of appearance, and you’ll always look younger than you would have without it. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, skincare routine, and follow-up appointments with your surgeon can help extend the longevity of your results.

Myth 8: Facelifts do not improve skin quality

Some believe facelifts simply tighten the skin without enhancing its quality. Though the primary goal of a facelift is to address sagging, it indirectly contributes to a more youthful appearance by improving overall skin tension. Pairing facelifts with complementary treatments such as chemical peels, dermabrasion, or laser therapy can further enhance skin quality, improving texture, tone, and hydration. This combination gives patients a comprehensive anti-aging solution.

Myth 9: Facelift surgery is not safe

Facelift surgery, like any medical procedure, carries some risks. However, when performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon in a licensed facility, the procedure is extremely safe. Surgeons carefully screen candidates to ensure they’re healthy enough for surgery. A qualified plastic surgeon uses advanced techniques and tools that minimize risks such as infection or adverse reactions. Dr. Kitto, for example, emphasizes patient safety through extensive pre-operative evaluations and post-operative care plans.

Myth 10: Facelifts are purely cosmetic and offer no health benefits

Facelifts are often viewed as solely cosmetic, but the benefits go beyond aesthetics. Many patients report improved self-esteem and confidence after the procedure. For some, the psychological boost of looking refreshed can improve their overall mental well-being. Additionally, healthier skin tension post-surgery can lead to better facial muscle support, reducing strain on the neck and jawline, which can have practical benefits in daily life.

Understanding what facelifts can and cannot do empowers you to make informed decisions about your appearance. • Achieving a Natural Look with Your Facelift

Facelifts have long been a popular choice for those seeking to rejuvenate their appearance and regain a youthful glow. But in today’s world of aesthetic surgery, the focus has shifted from simply achieving a younger look to ensuring that the facelift results are as natural as possible. Mature adults and aesthetic enthusiasts are now prioritizing subtle transformations that enhance rather than completely alter their facial features.

    Understanding Facelift Surgery

Facelift surgery, or rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic procedure aimed at reducing visible signs of aging by removing excess skin, tightening tissues, and repositioning facial fat for a smoother, youthful appearance. Advancements in techniques now allow for natural-looking results that enhance unique features while maintaining authenticity, crucial for patient satisfaction. Such results boost confidence, self-esteem, and overall happiness by ensuring the facelift complements your natural appearance. Whether considering a full or mini facelift, understanding the procedure is key to achieving desirable outcomes.

Key Factors That Influence Natural Facelift Outcomes

Achieving a natural facelift with surgery involves several key factors:

    • Surgeon’s Skill: Choose an experienced surgeon with an eye for detail and a deep understanding of facial anatomy.
    • Customization: A personalized approach is crucial. A skilled surgeon will tailor the procedure to your facial structure, skin type, and preferences to ensure natural results.
    • Post-Operative Care: Follow your surgeon’s recovery instructions to minimize swelling, reduce scarring, and ensure smooth healing.

When selecting a plastic surgeon, consider choosing a female surgeon such as Dr. Kitto, as they often bring a unique perspective and understanding to aesthetic procedures, which can lead to enhanced empathy and communication throughout the process. Preparing for a Natural-Looking Facelift

Before a facelift, thorough preparation is key for natural results. This is important because it allows you and your surgeon to discuss the procedure, its expected outcomes, potential risks, and your desired results. During this consultation:

    • Be Honest: Be open with your surgeon about what you hope to achieve and your concerns. This will help them create a customized treatment plan that addresses all of your needs.
    • Ask Questions: Take this opportunity to ask any questions or express any doubts you may have about the procedure. Your surgeon should be more than happy to answer and address any concerns.
    • Discuss Realistic Expectations: Communicate openly with your surgeon about what you consider “natural” for your appearance. It’s important to manage expectations and understand that a facelift can enhance.
    • Review Before and After Results: Examine the surgeon’s portfolio of previous patients to view before and after photos. This will give you valuable insight into the surgeon’s skill and the types of results they can achieve, helping you gauge whether their aesthetic aligns with your vision of a natural look.
    • Preparation Tips:
      • Maintain a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet and regular exercise to aid healing.
      • Cultivate a positive mindset and prepare for the recovery process.

    Recovering after Facelift Surgery

Facelift results are not permanent, but they can last for several years with proper maintenance. Post-operative recovery is a crucial phase in achieving long-term elegance after a facelift. Following your surgeon’s post-operative instructions is essential for optimal healing. It’s normal to experience some swelling and bruising initially, but these effects will gradually subside. Here are some tips to help you maintain a natural and elegant look after your facelift:

    • Protect Your Skin: Apply sunscreen daily and avoid excessive sun exposure.
    • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated and glowing.
    • Follow a Skincare Routine: Consult with your surgeon about a skincare routine that best suits your skin type and maintains the facelift results.
    • Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle: Continue exercising, eating well, and avoiding bad habits like smoking or excessive alcohol consumption.

Facelift surgery is not about transforming into someone else; it’s about enhancing the beauty that already exists within you. The key is to approach the procedure with realistic expectations and a commitment to maintaining your results over time.

If you’re considering a facelift surgery in Richmond, it’s essential to consult with a qualified and experienced surgeon who specializes in natural-looking outcomes. They will guide you through the process, answer any questions you may have, and ensure that you achieve the results you desire.

  • Facelift Surgery for Natural-Looking Results

Facelift surgery, or rhytidectomy, is an artful cosmetic procedure designed to turn back the clock by rejuvenating the face and neck. While the term “facelift” might conjure images of dramatic transformations, modern techniques actually focus on enhancing one’s natural features, rather than completely altering them. This comprehensive guide explores the nuanced process of achieving natural-looking facelift results — a blend of surgical expertise, preparation, and post-op care.

    Understanding Facelift Surgery

A facelift surgery is a comprehensive restructuring of the skin, muscle, and fat in the face and neck. The goal is to create a refreshed appearance that is both youthful and natural. There are various surgical techniques that can cater to achieving these subtle yet impactful changes.

    Different Methods of Facelift Surgery

Facelift techniques are diverse, catering to the specific needs of patients. The mini facelift suits younger patients showing minor aging signs, providing subtle enhancements in the lower face.

The traditional full facelift addresses aging in the lower face, cheeks, and neck for comprehensive rejuvenation. This procedure involves small incisions around the ears and in the hairline to tighten facial and neck muscles while removing excess fat from the neck and jowls.

The deep plane facelift works by targeting the deeper layers of facial tissue for effective results. It helps remove jowls, lift cheeks, define the jawline, and improve the neck contour, all while keeping a natural look. The technique involves making small cuts around the ears that hide well after healing.

Each method is tailored to the patient’s specific concerns and desired outcome. A skilled plastic surgeon adept in these techniques can ensure that the work not only serves the patient’s aesthetic goals but also maintains the harmony and balance of their natural facial features.

What Makes a Good Facelift Candidate

Facelift surgery may not be suitable for all individuals. It is best suited for those with realistic expectations, who are in good health, and possess some degree of skin elasticity.

Our facelift procedures offer significant benefits to both men and women experiencing sagging in the face and neck area, provided their skin retains some elasticity. While most candidates are between their forties and sixties, the procedure is also effective for those in their seventies or eighties.

    Picking the Right Plastic Surgeon

The expertise of a board-certified plastic surgeon is crucial for natural facelift outcomes. Seek a surgeon with extensive experience and a diverse portfolio, also considering patient reviews for evidence of natural results. Viewing before and after photos can help assess their skill. The surgeon’s gender, while not a qualification, may affect comfort and communication; for instance, Dr. Kitto offers an empathetic approach favored by many.

Recent studies and articles from the National Library of Medicine and The Wall Street Journal show that choosing a female plastic surgeon has unique benefits.

Learn how a female surgeon could improve your facelift experience by reading our blog post at The Comfort and Connection of Choosing a Female Plastic Surgeon.

Before and After: Your Initial Consultation

During the consultation, you will discuss your motivations for surgery and the changes you hope to see. Your surgeon will assess your facial structure, bone density, and skin quality. Be prepared to ask questions — the goal is to foster a partnership with your surgeon.

By maintaining a transparent and open dialogue, you are more likely to be pleased with the outcome. Realistic expectations are as crucial as the procedure itself; no surgery can stop the aging process, but it can significantly set it back while preserving the unique character of your face.

    Recovery and Aftercare

The recovery phase and the post-operative care significantly influences the natural facelift results.

Following your surgeon’s aftercare instructions is vital. Expect swelling and bruising initially, but as these dissipate, the true benefits of the natural plastic surgery will become evident.

Collaboration between patient and surgeon doesn’t end in the operating room; it extends into the recovery period, where patient compliance and commitment to aftercare play a crucial role in shaping the final outcome.

    • Protect your skin by wearing sunscreen with at least SPF 30, avoiding peak sun hours, and wearing protective clothing.
    • Maintain a healthy lifestyle
    • Stay hydrated to maintain skin elasticity and support the healing process

Deciding to undergo a facelift is a personal choice focused on enhancing natural beauty and well-being. The key to achieving beautiful, natural-looking results lies in selecting the right surgeon, preparing thoughtfully, following dedicated aftercare, and setting realistic expectations.

  • FAQs for Facelifts: A Comprehensive Guide

The decision to undergo cosmetic surgery is significant and comes with a myriad of questions. As a highly sought-after procedure, the facelift is often top of mind for those looking to rejuvenate their appearance. In this extensive guide, we’ll address the most common questions regarding facelifts. Whether you’re just beginning to consider this surgery or you’re ready to take the next step, this FAQ compilation will offer answers to empower your decision-making.

    What is a Facelift?

A facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgical procedure aimed at reducing the visible signs of aging in the face and neck. This typically involves the tightening of facial muscles, removal of excess skin, and repositioning of facial tissues to restore a more youthful appearance.

    How is a Facelift Performed?

Traditionally, a facelift starts with an incision along the hairline, which extends around the ear and sometimes into the lower scalp. Through this opening, the surgeon can access the underlying tissues to lift and reposition them. The skin is then redraped over the uplifted contours, and any excess is trimmed. Incision closure techniques vary, often with stitches, clips, or adhesives.

What are the Different Types of Facelift Procedures Available?

Dr. Kitto offers a traditional full facelift, a mini facelift and a deep plane facelift. During a full facelift, small incisions around the ears and in the hairline tighten facial and neck muscles, and remove excess fat from the neck and jowls.

The deep plane facelift stands out as a highly effective procedure, exclusively targeting the deeper layers of facial tissue. This advanced technique meticulously lifts these layers, effectively removing jowls, elevating the cheeks, defining a sharp jawline, and enhancing the neck’s contour. Unique to this method, there’s no tension applied directly to the skin since all adjustments occur beneath the surface, ensuring a natural, rejuvenated appearance without visible strain. Incisions are discreetly placed both in front of and behind the ears, making them practically invisible post-recovery.

Who is a Candidate for a Facelift?

Not everyone is an ideal candidate for a facelift. It usually depends on various factors, including age, health status, and desired outcomes.

Facelifts are beneficial for both men and women experiencing sagging in the face and neck, yet still have some skin elasticity. While most patients are in their forties to sixties, individuals in their seventies or eighties can also undergo a facelift procedure.

The type of facelift you choose depends on the specific wrinkles and sagging skin you want to target. Opting for a full facelift yields more pronounced results, ideal for patients with moderate to severe facial sagging. On the other hand, a mini facelift can address concerns like sagging cheeks and deepening nasolabial folds.

What is the Recovery Process Like After a Facelift?

The decision to undergo a facelift is just the beginning of your transformation. Understanding what to expect is crucial for mental and physical readiness.

Recovery from a facelift typically involves swelling, bruising, and some discomfort. Patients are advised to keep their head elevated, follow a prescribed medication regimen, and avoid strenuous activity for a period of weeks.

Sutures are taken out a week after surgery. Typically, patients experience full recovery with no lingering swelling or side effects within three weeks.

Facelift scars typically follow the hairline and are usually discreet, making them easy to hide beneath hair.

What are the Potential Risks and Complications with Facelift Surgery?

Every surgery carries risks, and being aware of these is an important part of the decision-making process.

Common risks associated with facelifts include bleeding, infection, poor wound healing, nerve injury, and an adverse reaction to anesthesia. However, when performed by a qualified surgeon in an accredited surgical facility, these occurrences are rare.

What Should I Look for When Choosing a Plastic Surgeon?

Your choice of surgeon is one of the most influential factors in your facelift journey.

When selecting a facelift surgeon, look for board certification, extensive experience, an artful eye, and a commitment to continued education. Review their portfolio of before and after photos, ensuring that you are impressed with the quality and naturalness of the results.

    Making an Informed Decision

The decision to pursue a facelift, especially one performed with expertise in plastic surgery in Richmond, VA, is highly personal and should be based on comprehensive knowledge.

We recommend thorough consultations with potential surgeons, discussing every aspect of the procedure, from the surgical plan to the expected results.

Dedicated research, open dialogue with medical professionals, and a commitment to post-operative care are crucial components of this transformative experience. With the right knowledge and support, the path to a more confident, reinvigorated you is well within reach.

  • 5 Myths About Facelifts and How They Are Protected to Consider

Do you think that facelift surgery are painful and time-consuming to recover from? Do you believe that you can’t get a facelift because of your age or your gender? Don’t fall for these facelift myths! Here at Kitto Plastic Surgery, the best place to get a facelift in Richmond, VA, we’re ready to give you the facts. Read on to find out the truth—what you find may surprise you!

Facelifts are an increasingly popular procedure that many people turn to increase their self-esteem and become happier with what they see in the mirror. Over 260,000 facelift plastic surgery were performed in the United States in 2019, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, but despite how common the procedure has become, there are still many myths about facelifts floating around. Before you decide whether a facelift surgery is right for you, it is crucial to understand the facts about facelifts.

    1. “I’m too young to get a facelift!”

Everyone’s aging process is different. Depending on your lifestyle, genetics, and time exposed to the sun, a facelift might be great for you, even if you think you are too young. plasticsurgery.gov states that most patients who get a facelift plastic surgery are between the ages of 40 and 54. However, people both younger and older than that age range may find that a facelift is right for them. Why wait? No one is too young or too old to look their best!

    2. “I’m a man, so I can’t get a facelift!”

Just like you don’t have to be a certain age to get a facelift, you don’t have to be a certain gender, either! It’s true that it is more common for women to get facelifts, but thousands of men get the procedure done every year. According to plasticsurgery.gov, in 2016, approximately 12,000 facelift procedures were done on men, a number that makes up 10% of all facelifts performed in the United States. Getting a facelift can mean different things for women and men. Women usually focus on restoring a youthful appearance and shrinking jowls, while men often look to gain features such as stronger cheekbones and a stronger jawline.

    3. “I can get the same results with other treatments!”

Though there are other treatment options for people looking to contour their faces and reduce wrinkles, none are as durable or efficient as a facelift. Facelift surgery is the best procedures to reduce the appearance of weak muscles and loose skin. Many other procedures require you to return often to the office, which means spending more of your time and money. Due to the all-encompassing nature of a facelifts, multiple issues can be addressed in this one procedure. Your wallet and your schedule will thank you for making the most efficient decision.

    4. “I don’t have time to recover from a facelift!”

Recovering from a facelift plastic surgery is not as long and arduous a process as you might imagine. The majority of facelift patients can resume their regular daily activities after only two weeks, with some returning to normalcy even sooner. When you get a facelift, you won’t have to return to the doctor’s office for regular treatments as frequently as you would with other procedures, so you are saving time in the long run. You can conveniently schedule your facelift procedure in advance to make fitting this life-changing procedure into your schedule as easy as possible.

Usually, any discomfort you might feel after a facelift surgery will not last any longer than one or two days. If you do your part by properly taking care of your skin after surgery, your recovery should be smooth, minimally uncomfortable, and relatively short. It’s most likely that the joy you will feel after seeing the results in the mirror after your facelift will make any inconvenience or discomfort more than worth it. Imagine the improvement in your self-esteem!

    5. “No one will recognize me after a facelift, and everyone will know that I got one!”

Facelifts are not meant to make you look like a whole different person. The goal is to enhance your natural features so you look like a younger, more refreshed, and more alert version of yourself. The incisions made during a facelift are discreet, and any bruising that occurs immediately after the surgery is easy to hide with makeup. What you want to do with your appearance is your business, and people don’t have to know you got a facelift if you don’t want them to.

Now that you know the facts about facelifts, it’s time to let Kitto Plastic Surgery in Richmond, VA, help you look and feel your best. Check out information about our facial procedures and facelift services.

  • Is a Facelift Right for You? All You Need to Know about the Procedure, Benefits, and Side Effects

Is a Facelift Right for You? All You Need to Know about the Procedure, Benefits, and Side Effects

Are you struggling with self-confidence issues due to sagging facial skin? Have other less invasive procedures been unsuccessful and don’t provide the results you want? Then a facelift may be the right choice for you. At Kitto Plastic Surgery we provide facelifts in Richmond, VA and aim to ensure our patients are fully informed and feel they made the right choice in proceeding with surgery. To better help other patients we have put together a brief guide with all the information you need to know before choosing to have a facelift.

What is a Facelift and Why Choose One?

As we age, our skin loses the elasticity and collagen that give us our youthful appearance. Long hours in the sun, stress, and age all take a toll on our face—creating wrinkles, fine lines, undefined jawlines, laugh lines, neck folds, and more. A facelift is a surgical procedure that lifts various areas of the face to reduce sagging and the appearance of wrinkles or fine lines. This procedure results in a more youthful appearance, lifts the cheeks, sculpts the jaw, and decreases the appearance of smile/laugh lines.

Individuals who are experiencing low self-confidence due to the appearance of sagging skin, deep lines, and creases, and if minimally-invasive procedures are not providing you with the results you desire, a facelift might be a suitable option for you.

    Different Types of Facelifts

There are two main types of facelifts—a standard full facelift (also known as the rhytidectomy) and a mini-facelift. The standard facelift provides more dramatic results while the mini-facelift is ideal for individuals concerned with sagging in their cheeks and face skin.

    How is a Facelift Performed?

During a full facelift, a board-certified plastic surgeon will make several small incisions along your hairline, traveling the contours of your face and following it back behind your ear.  These incisions provide the surgeon access to your muscles, tissue, and skin. After removing excess fat and skin and tightening the muscles, the surgeon will close these incisions with sutures. The whole process can take several hours.

A mini-facelift is performed in much the same way—placing small incisions on the hairline in front of the ear and within the mouth area. This achieves a more voluminous cheek appearance and reduces wrinkles around the mouth and on the cheeks.

    Benefits of a Facelift

There are many benefits to a facelift, but the one that matters most to you will depend on your specific insecurities. A few of the benefits you can expect are:

    • Lifted and tightened skin on the face.
    • A more youthful appearance.
    • Reduction of fat in the face.
    • Removal or lessening of wrinkles and frown lines.
    • A more sculpted jaw and chin.
    • Smoother skin.
    • Firmer, lifted cheeks.

Side Effects to Expect After a Facelift

Just like any surgical procedure, a facelift is not without it’s risks and side effects. Typically, people can expect bruising and swelling on or around the face for the first few days after the procedure. Some individuals may have a small, thin tube temporarily placed behind their ear, under the incision for assistance with blood draining. Sutures are removed about one week after the surgery and most individuals can expect to make a full recovery within three weeks.

Other possible risks and side effects include:

    • Bleeding
    • Bruising
    • Complications of anesthesia
    • Temporary nerve damage
    • Infection
    • Numbness
    • Scarring

  • Reverse the Effects of Aging With a Facelift

Do the natural effects of aging have you feeling down? Are you worried about what you see when you look in the mirror? Good news, you’re not alone. Millions of other people feel the same way, which is why they turn to plastic surgery to help alleviate those concerns.

For many, the answer lies in a facelift—what we call a rhytidectomy—a cosmetic procedure that reduces the visible signs of aging in and around a patient’s face and neck, helping to reverse the common effects of aging and providing a boosted sense of self.

Frustrated with frown lines? Worried about wrinkles? Schedule a consultation with us today to find out what a facelift can do for you.

    What Is a Facelift?

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a hugely popular cosmetic procedure that alleviates the visible signs of aging, including sagging, deep-set wrinkles and creases, double chins, and “turkey neck” (a condition that’s caused by weakening muscles that have lost their elasticity over time, allowing neck skin to droop). This surgery removes loose skin and excess fat through a series of small incisions, and is performed on more than 130,000 Americans every year.

    rhytidectomy

Oftentimes, this surgery is completed in conjunction with other like procedures, such as blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), rhinoplasty (nose job), or with the addition of dermal fillers. All of these options offer patients a more youthful appearance.

    Why Are Facelifts Performed?

Over time, our skin loses its natural pull and elasticity, resulting in drooping and sagging at the bottom of the face. Wrinkles along the neck, jaw and forehead may develop as well. These effects are perfectly natural and normal, but not always welcome.

Facelift surgery helps minimize those physical side effects by reducing their prominence. Once complete, a facelift can restore their once-lost youth, helping self-conscious people feel more attractive and more confident in their appearance.

    Types of Facelifts

A facelift isn’t just one single procedure. In fact, the umbrella of facelifts includes a variety of procedures that can rejuvenate a patient’s appearance. While there are many options your board-certified plastic surgeon should review with you, here are the three most common procedures:

    Mini-Facelift

A mini-facelift allows cosmetic surgeons to tighten the skin by using smaller incisions along the hairline to remove excess tissue. This option is known commonly as a “weekend facelift” due to its quick recovery time, allowing patients to return to normal activity in just a few days.

    mini facelift surgery

The results of this procedure are less dramatic, so it’s an ideal option for younger patients who are noticing the earlier signs of aging but aren’t quite ready for a full facelift.

    Mid-Facelift

A mid-facelift is commonly used to treat the middle area of the face—typically the cheeks and cheekbones. This surgery involves the creation of small incisions along the hairline above the ears and inside the patient’s mouth, allowing the repositioning of fat and tissue near the cheeks to tighten skin.

This procedure is ideal for patients who don’t yet have sagging neck skin, improving facial definition and creating a younger appearance through contouring.

    Traditional Facelift

A traditional facelift is the typical facelift. During this procedure, incisions are made along the ears, hairline, and chin to tighten fae muscles and neck skin. To assist in the creation of a defined neckline, bundles of muscle may be sutured together and excess fat is removed as needed.

This option provides the full effect that many patients expect, providing a premium level of correction to restore the patient’s youthful appearance.

    Does the Surgery Hurt?

The question everyone wants the answer to: Will it hurt? We’ll be honest, it’s not going to tickle. While facelift surgery itself isn’t necessarily painful, the after effects may be.

Many patients are put under anesthesia for the procedure to sidestep any painful side effects during the surgery. But, as with any surgery, there is a level of pain and discomfort in the days following as the skin and muscle tissue begins to heal.

    laser face lift

The good news is that, by taking prescription medication and following your doctor’s post-operative instructions, pain and lingering side effects and can be reduced or alleviated by some degree.

    Road to Recovery

No surgery is 100% safe. Complications occur, but everything we do is done with your safety in mind. With that, here’s what you can look forward to during your recovery:

    • Bruising and swelling are at their worst 2–3 days after facelift surgery
    • Recovery typically takes upwards of two weeks, with most patients resuming normal activity after four weeks
    • Sutures are often removed 5–10 days after surgery
    • Scars will fade over time, but that process could take up to a year
