Best Candidates

Upper blepharoplasty is for patients who are bothered by drooping upper eyelid skin, bags in the upper eyelids, and fat deposits that cause them to appear older than their age. Candidates for this surgery should be in good physical condition and don’t have serious eye problems.

Procedure

Upper blepharoplasty also known as eyelid lift may be performed in the office under local anesthesia only, without going “under” anesthesia and without the long recovery after anesthesia. Dr. Kitto will make an incision along the natural crease of the eyelids to remove excess skin, muscle and fat deposits making the entire face look younger and refreshed. The patient remains comfortable and pain free during the procedure.

Recovery

For this in-office procedure the recovery is quick. Patients are sent home to recover with detailed instructions and follow up. As the surgery is in close proximity to their eyes patients are required to have a designated driver. Full recovery may take up to a week. It is common but only temporary to experience bruising, irritation, swelling, and in some cases dry eyes. The side effects are usually mild and can be treated with over-the-counter pain medications and ointments. Patients are seen in the office regularly by Dr. Kitto to ensure complete recovery.
