Earlobe repair of enlarged earholes, or partial and complete tears has become a highly sought out procedure. There are many causes for such defects, including the use of heavy earrings over time, acute traumatic tears and earlobe dilation from gauges. In many cases that leaves men and women with deformed and asymmetric earlobes which may be a source of physical discomfort or self-consciousness.

The procedure
The repair of earlobes is a quick in-office procedure which Dr. Kitto performs with local anesthesia for the patient’s maximal comfort. She makes incisions around the dilated earlobe holes, removes scar tissue and reconstructs the remainder of the earlobe to achieve the original shape and contour. All incisions are closed with dissolvable or permanent sutures that are removed in 1 week. Patients are sent home with detailed instructions on how to take care of the incisions and with follow up.
Recovery process
Recovery from repair of dilated earlobe surgery is fairly quick. Patients may expect mild swelling and bruising. Any residual discomfort is treated with over the counter medication. Sutures are usually removed at 1 week. Patients are instructed not to wear any earrings for the next few weeks. At 6-8 weeks after the original procedure Dr. Kitto will re-pierce the ears again if the patient wants to wear earrings.
