Nipple reduction is an in-office procedure that reduces the size and the projection (the length) of the nipple. Enlarged nipples may develop after pregnancy, breastfeeding or prior trauma. This may be quite uncomfortable for some women as the nipples may appear stretched, “droopy” or too visible under clothing. As a female plastic surgeon Dr. Kitto understands that this is a sensitive topic for women and is focused on delivering safe and natural results.
Best candidates
Women who are unhappy with the large appearance of their nipples. Women who are pregnant or plan to breast feed are not candidates for this procedure. Patients should be also in good overall health and refrain from smoking.
The procedure
Dr. Kitto performs nipple reduction in the office under local anesthesia while patient remains comfortable and pain free. This procedure removed the excess tissue from the nipple to provide smaller nipples which can improve the overall appearance of the breast. This procedure can also be combined with areola reduction to give an overall smaller and more symmetric appearance of the overall breast.
Recovery process
Recovery is fairly quick. Patients may expect mild swelling and bruising of the operated area. Any post-operative pain or discomfort can be treated with over the counter medication. There are no stitches to be removed. Patients are periodically seen in the office to ensure their complete recovery.
